Building constructive relationships workshops
Effective people management skills ensure that managers can handle difficult people and situations. In our workshops we help managers to gain confidence in handling:-
- various forms of conflict
- informal discipline
- formal discipline
- grievance
Managing conflict
All too often difficult workplace situations are allowed to develop beyond the point where they can be dealt with easily. However, conflict is almost always best resolved by confronting the issues when they first occur. The managing conflict workshop describes how to spot the signs of conflict before they become acute and to deal with them using a negotiated 'win-win' dialogue.
Assertiveness
There is a huge difference between passivity and aggression. In most situations neither achieves the results that individuals desire. However, being assertive enough to state your views so that neither party is seen to 'lose' paves the way to outcomes which are balanced and acceptable to all parties. This workshop helps people to understand the difference between assertiveness and aggression and how and when to use an assertive approach effectively when interacting with others.
Handling difficult people and situations
This workshop explores a wide range of differing situations that can prove difficult for a manager to handle. Whilst specific situations are discussed, there is ample scope in the workshop for people to bring forward their own examples of issues they have found difficult so that possible solutions can be discussed.
Discipline and Grievance
All employers, regardless of size, must now have a discipline and grievance process in place. Poor processes, or the failure to adhere to an organisation's disciplinary process can result in significant penalties arising from a successful tribunal action. Managers need to understand the implications of failing to follow the recognised process but more importantly how to use informal performance management so that these types of negative situations are avoided. The workshops can be tailored to suit a range of needs but will always explain procedures linked to the ACAS best practice 'three step' process and will focus on how to get the best outcomes for all parties.
