Managing information and Effective communications workshops

Maintaining effective communication presents a challenge to almost all organisations. In our 1:1s or workshops we explore a wide range of communication techniques so that managers can choose the most effective for their organisation.

Communication overview

Organisations need to ensure that everybody has the information they need to carry out their role effectively. It is also true that providing information strengthens the role of leaders. With the high rates of change experienced in the workplace today, information flows have increased, as have the potential methods of communicating. Managers have to decide on the appropriate method of transmission and timing of communicating the many things that people need to know. They then must ensure that the method chosen is used to greatest effect. The overview workshop explores the various methods and discusses which might be most approriate for each situation.

Managing information

Busy managers have to handle the information needed to manage their functions, share with peers and to pass on to their teams. Incoming information must therefore be read, decisions made on its relevance and how it can best be used. Some information may need rephrasing or resetting to make it appropriate to various teams. Leaders and managers must therefore ensure they manage information in a timely and effective manner. This workshop helps managers to consider the various approaches to managing information effectively.

Team briefing

Team Briefing is a structured process to ensure the cascade of management information to the complete workforce in a timely manner. By adding local information at each stage of the process, an appropriate balance of local and organisation wide communication is achieved.

Effective team meetings

The most successful organisations make sure their people are kept in the loop and use meetings not just to communicate. They look at team meetings as discussion forums where ideas can be input and discussed, decisions made and views aired. The effective team meeting workshop covers how team meetings can be planned and managed so as to motivate, inform, involve and capture ideas from people.

General interviewing skills

Formal face-to-face discussion and fact finding are common in the workplace. In particular, they occur in selection, counselling, performance management and disciplinary situations. The interviewing foundation workshop sets out the differences between these types of formal meetings and defines the how, what and why of successful interviewing. It ensures an understanding of how to plan, prepare and deliver them in order to reach desired outcomes, including action planning and follow ups where required.

Presentation skills

Presentation skills are important at many levels within the business community. Managers can be called upon to make a formal presentation to a Board, fellow managers, customers and team members. Each presentation may be different and pitched at a different level, but the basic preparation and skills required are similar. Our workshop considers how to plan and deliver a presentation with professionalism and confidence.
