Performance management workshops
Managing team and individual performance should include a framework for clear "ground rules", robust objective setting, regular feedback and motivation. Our workshops provide guidance on all aspects of performance management. Topics include:-
Managing performance
A key task of leaders is to manage performance to ensure that people are fully motivated and focused on delivering the right objectives. The managing performance workshop helps managers to understand the importance of the foundation stones by exploring how to:-
- set clear behavioural "ground rules"
- create and agree SMART objectives
- provide objective and constructive feedback on performance
Where performance has not been up to expectations, it guides managers in ways to follow up on issues to encourage continual improvement. This workshop also emphasises the importance of praise and recognition.
Effective appraisal
Formal appraisal is the time when people have the opportunity to receive individual feedback, discuss their progress, agree new goals and identify development needs. It allows employers to ensure that people are clear on their personal or team goals so that effort is focused upon what the organisation requires. In addition, it ensures that development needs are identified and that they too are goal focused. Done well, appraisal is a process valued both by managers and the appraisees. This workshop is designed to help managers understand the skills required, plan, prepare and deliver effective appraisals.
Constructive feedback
Giving feedback to groups and individuals is a vital skill for managers. Feedback should be objective, informative, motivational and facilitate development for the recipient. This workshop concentrates on the skills and understanding required to give feedback that lifts people and helps them to carry out their roles more effectively.
Setting objectives
The key to achieving organisational objectives through motivated, well directed people is to be clear about what needs to be achieved. Cascading objectives from whole organisational level, through teams, to individuals ensures a focus. Creating SMART objectives linked to business performance ensures that focus is maintained throughout the organisation and facilitates motivation and commitment. This workshop encourages managers to set balanced objectives covering key aspects of the business to gain maximum performance.
